"The Solent Sunbeams were started as a Class in October 1922, By Capt. Basil Lubbock at Hamble."
"The first seven Sunbeams raced in Cowes Week of 1923"
V.1 Dainty; V.2 Joy; V.3 Mary; V.4 Judy; V.5 Whimsey; V.6 Daisy; V.7 Trilby
By 1930, the Class at Hamble consisted of 24 boats. It relocated to Bembridge until forced to disband in 1939.
Following the war, the class re-grouped in 1950, with, ever since, its successful base at Itchenor.

From 1923-1926 the first 30 Sunbeams were numbered as one series, the original eight Falmouth Sunbeams being numbered V.14 - V.21 inclusive.
In 1926 The Solent Sunbeams decided to have consecutive numbers, utilising 14-21 for their boats, so that duplication of numbers ensued for years.
* Phantasy (1935) was numbered 23 because the rightful No.23, Ecstacy, ex Golightly had withdrawn from the class.
